Firewater came to us when his owner was
discourage on what to do next. She had obtained
both him and Cool from the previous owner with health
issues and just did not want to see them waste away in
the pasture. He was approximately 100 lbs
underweight and was laying down a lot due to the
excruciating pain in his front leg. He had issues
for so long that he started over-compensating for the
injury and was mainly walking on 3 legs for quite some
time. His muscles started to deform and his rear
began to tuck under. After taking 6 x-rays
we found that Fire was previously injured in his fetlock
and now has some arthritis. He also had some bone
fragments that were forming in his pastern area.
After placing him on a good diet and joint and tendon
supplements, he has made quite the transformation.
He is now building weight and is running and bucking all
over the pasture. You can see in his eyes that the
pain has subsided and he may recover enough to live a
pain free life. This guy was scheduled to be put
down, but something kept telling me that he was not
quite ready. The night before it was scheduled he
let me know that he wanted to live. I took this as
a sign from God that we just need to invest a bit more
time and effort into helping him out. I have had
some wonderful sponsors step up to help donate special
supplements for this guy, and I want to say that I am so
appreciative of the help and assistance you guys do to
help these animals in need. Thanks so much!
